Position Summary/Purpose of Position:
The Graduate School (GS) at the University of Maryland, College Park invites applications for a
Postdoctoral Associate for Academic Support (PA). This 12-month appointment works jointly
with the GS Writing Center (GSWC) and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA)in a leadership position to support advanced doctoral/postdoctoral scholars through a range of initiatives. Within the OPA, the PA provides administrative/programmatic support working collaboratively with various campus units, the University System of Maryland, and other academicinstitutions. OPA duties include overseeing day-to-day administration, onboarding new postdoctoral scholars and fellows, providing advising on university policies/resources, conference planning for two annual internal conferences, administering the Postdoctoral ConferenceSupport Award, working with the OPA graduate assistant on office communications, providing administrative support for professional/career development workshops/seminars as well as staff/logistical support to various advisory boards, and keeping current on postdoctoral trends, compliance issues, regulations, and guidelines. Within the GSWC, the PA provides academic support to students at the dissertation stage through GSWC’s Dissertation Support Program including curriculum development, administrative tasks, running regular meetings, and offering one-on-one writing support as needed. This position may be renewable for up to two additional years and provides a recent Ph.D. graduate in fields such as humanities, social sciences, or higher education an extraordinary opportunity for practical experience combined with opportunitiesfor research. It is a full-time position with latitude for article preparation, conference attendance, and other professional development opportunities.

- Experience in programming and event organizing.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Demonstrated interest in a career in higher education, ideally in higher education administration.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Evidence of strong organizational skills.

Working conditions are normal for an office environment and include movement across campus for various meetings, events, workshops, and seminars. Must be able to stand and communicate before groups. Must be able to read, write, speak, and present clearly. Must be able to operate and work on a computer for prolonged periods of time. Evening and weekend hours are occasionally required.
